In Mandera County, harmful practices like Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and child labor have robbed too many girls of their childhood. WAAP refused to stay silent.
In partnership with the Ministry of Social Protection, the Ministry of Health and Medical Services and other stakeholders, WAAP has organized forums, seminars and workshops that bring together community leaders, parents, health workers and girls themselves. These gatherings create safe spaces for difficult conversations challenging deep-rooted norms and replacing them with knowledge and protection.
Through these collaborations, WAAP has trained community champions who now identify and report GBV cases. Health workers are better equipped to support survivors. Parents are choosing education over early marriage.
“I didn’t know FGM was harming my daughter until WAAP’s workshop,” one mother shared. “Now I know. And now I will protect her.”
Together with government partners and supporters like you, WAAP is building a future where every girl in Mandera grows up safe, educated and free from violence.
