ABOUT US

A resilient and inclusive society where communities live with dignity, protect their environment, and create opportunities for future generations.

Women Action Against Poverty (WAAP) is not just an NGO or a non-profit organization but a Women Led Organization working with communities in Northern Kenya. The organization was registered on 10th May 2013 with NGO Coordination Board under section 10 of the Non-Governmental Organization Coordination Act with registration number: OP.218/051//12-0759/8784. WAAP is headquartered in Nairobi County. It has field offices in Mandera, Wajir, Garissa and Tana River Counties.

WAAP began as a local effort focused on supporting women and vulnerable families who were struggling with the impacts of poverty and environmental hardship. Community members came together to create practical solutions that could improve livelihoods, strengthen cooperation and expand opportunities for those who had been left behind.
As the organization gained experience and trust within communities, its work naturally expanded. Programs began to include livelihood support, education initiatives, health awareness and activities aimed at strengthening community resilience.
With this broader scope of work, the organization recognized the need for an institutional identity that reflected its growing mission. In 2019 WAAP transitioned into Sundus Foundation, building on the strong foundation of community trust and expanding its focus to address wider humanitarian and development challenges across the region.
Today Sundus Foundation works alongside communities to improve livelihoods, expand access to education and health services, strengthen environmental resilience, and support vulnerable children and families.
The organization believes that development cannot be achieved through isolated activities. Social well-being, economic opportunity, environmental protection, and community empowerment are deeply connected. For this reason, Sundus promotes an integrated approach to development that addresses these challenges together.
Through partnerships with communities, government institutions and development partners, Sundus Foundation continues to support communities in building stable, resilient and hopeful futures.
